Introduction of Members
Calendar Basics:
Meeting Dates- 6/1, 6/15, 6/29 12:30 in Conference Room at Borough Hall
Big Picture- Year Overview- Brainstorm Ideas:
Mountain Lakes Day- Stephanie will compile a draft for a one-page handout to be distributed by Pat Rusak at the HPC table. Will include info on our committee members/ meeting times, charter from Council, website and our desire to receive input from the community. In addition, she will contact Andy Bulfer to include the same info on the website. Need to post the flyer in the library & borough hall as well.
Previous ML milestone celebrations- Pat provided us with information on previous celebrations. We will review and consider the use of some of the wonderful ideas. Maryanne Wargo compiled many great ideas (fundraiser & events) for us to review in her absence. Also, reviewed a summary of the “Palio de Siena” event in Italy which could serve as a model for neighborhood activities in ML and a potential canoe &/or sailing race on Mountain Lake.
Other Towns’ Centennial Celebrations- Jack Wooton coordinated the centennial for Boonton and has offered to pass on his thoughts. John will invite him to our next meeting. It would be helpful if committee members could follow-up on any leads with others involved with centennial events &/or check out the internet.
Steve clarified that we do not have a committee budget. Need to plan self-funded activities or fundraise. Council can potentially assist with capital improvements such as the promenade improvements. Need to check on our tax deductible status.
Other thoughts/ Outside the Box:
Shade Tree Commission separated ML into seven areas. Sue will bring these to the next meeting. May assist us in planning “neighborhood” events.
Debbie would like to research the idea of working with a sister community celebrating their 100th. Would like to see us give back to a community in need.
Pat would like to potentially use the Deyo’s house (first in ML) for a kick-off event and tie it in with Stephanie Deyo’s involvement with Lake Drive School.
Recommend that Town Club include historical homes on their tour for 2011. Spirit 5K could change their route to a “historical route” for the year.
Make a Centennial Quilt- lots of quilter’s in town.
Costume Ball for adults on Halloween.
4th of July Boat Parade. Dixieland band on float in lake.
Banner across Boulevard or individual banners attached to poles down the Boulevard featuring our 100th logo and an organization in town. Could be subsidized by the groups in town.
Jan 1 could be a great kick-off for the year with a Winter Carnival theme.
Consider a statuary program similar to the cows & horses used in other towns.
ML calendar fundraiser
Public Input: It was agreed that we need to involve community members in the planning process. Hold off on public meetings until we are more organized, potentially in Sept.
Centennial E-mail address is Mtnlakes100@yahoo.com password: centennial
Community Organizations: Need to compile a list of presidents or liaisons for all of the organizations in town to ensure that we communicate our plans and are aware of their plans for the centennial. Stephanie will bring a list to our next meeting. Plan is to send out a letter from our committee.
Logo:
It was agreed that we should develop a committee logo. Will look at the ML flag and potentially add a 100th commemorative insignia.
Home & School:
Steve clarified that we are able to include news within the borough section and there is no fee associated with our articles.
