3. Logo update: The RFP for a ML centennial logo was distributed on March 6th to 7 artists and ML100 committee and the media committee. Proposals are due Thursday, March 25th. The graphics committee will meet on March 26 to select the winning artist. The aim is to have a logo ready to use by May 1st.
4. Events updates:
a. The committee for the kick off event, a Mtn Lakes Open House, had their first committee meeting Kris Barlow reported. The date will be Sunday, January 9, 2011 and the theme is a general store. The committee chaired by Nancy Biglesen had lots of good ideas and was very organized.
b. Birthday Gala hosted by the Town Club in March 2011 will have their first committee meeting on March 23rd Debbie Terlizzi reported.
c. Memorial Day – May 30, 2011: Debbie Terlizzi will co-ordinate the 100 years of automobiles working with Scott Kimmelman, and 100 years of people working with Doug McWilliams and Kelly Thompson. Debbie, Kelly and Doug will co-ordinate with Blair Bravo and attend the next Memorial Day committee meeting. The Centennial committee might want to suggest a Speaker and a Grand Marshall for the 2011 ceremony.
d. House Tour – December 2011: After some discussion, the committee agreed that the Town Club might need some help to ensure that there were enough volunteers of historic houses to make a tour that year. It was also suggested that the Churches might want to be on the tour that year.
e. The Mtn Lakes League of Women Voters is planning to update its 2000 study on Who is Mountain Lakes, with a 2010 Who is Mountain Lakes, then and now, looking back over the first 100 years. With the timing of the Census the event will be in the fall of 2011.
Banners: The Borough Council approved the use of Centennial Banners on the Boulevard, and possible Midvale and Morris Avenues, during 2011. There was not agreement on whether there should be ‘sponsors’ listed on the banners. The Committee discussed this point further and agreed that the Banners committee would decide on precise parameters (i.e. size, font, color, number of words, format) for names on the banner, and report back. Pat and Kris will also solicit additional bids.
Centennial Bricks/Stones: $50,000 has been set aside for a Borough centennial project. A feasibility study of pillars on the Boulevard and a wall along the Cove will be developed, working with Barry Lewis and Mark Prusina as well as input and approval from the HPC. Findings will be presented to Council. The fundraising subcommittee will continue to oversee the effort. Kelly, Doug and Blair will contact Barry, Mark and Bill Reiden the borough engineer. Blair will set-up the initial meeting and report back to the Steering Committee.
Committee target date for the project and banners presentation to Council is 4/26.
Mountain Lakes Production: Laurel Durenberger would like to hear “stories” from current residents. Doug offered to meet with her. A suggestion was made to include this request in our newsletter.
