Consideration of Other Projects
Stephanie has been approached by residents with potential capital projects. She is concerned that the selection process was not open and others did not have an opportunity to present their ideas. After much discussion, the consensus of the group is that capital projects are not necessarily part of our role as a committee and therefore do not need to consider other ideas. The Esplanade ties into our celebration objectives and will be highlighted during the year with potential dedication, concerts, etc.
Organizing Strategy for Centennial Events:
The committee agreed to organize events throughout the year using two strategies: Mountain Lakes Clubs & Committees and Neighborhood Groups.
Mountain Lakes Clubs & Committees
Committee members were assigned as liaisons to borough clubs and committees. See attached listing.
Neighborhood Groups
Committee members were assigned as liaison to neighborhood groups. Plan is to find a “team captain” in the neighborhood that can organize events during the year including participation in the 4th of July boat races.
Weekly or Monthly “Centennial Sunday” events
It was agreed that this would require too much tremendous manpower, time & effort.
Existing Town Events
Our goal is to provide opportunities for all members of the community to participate in celebration activities during the year. The committee will tie-in to the existing activities; Town Club Gala, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Spirit 5K and plan to organize some of our own committee activities including a kick-off open house at the ML Club on 1/1/11 and a rededication/ concert at the Esplanade on Labor Day.
School Events:
There are many potential opportunities for us to work closely with the schools. Chris Sullivan has already reached out to Dr. Kazmark, Superintendant. In addition, Frank Sanchez, MLHS, has expressed an interest in developing a plan for the high school social studies department to be involved. Another potential idea is a Key Club fashion show featuring “100 years of fashion”.
Publicity:
Stephanie presented a new potential logo which Lili Rosenstreich still refining.
