A Shout Out for Centennial Volunteers!

Are you artsy, or a foodie, or a techie? Want a chance to become a part of Mountain Lakes’ history for the ages? If so, come and join our cadre of dedicated volunteers. There are many ways that you can help make the Centennial a 21st century highlight that 22nd century Lakers will look to for inspiration! Please check out the active committees and contacts listed below:

Independence Day – Monday, July 4, 2011 – Fun Races at the Mountain Lakes Club for the under 8 crowd and 100 people swim from the Club to Island beach for all ages. We could use help to make these events run smoothly. Contact Celia Flynn, cflynn@mtnlakes.org

The Taste of Mountain Lakes – Friday, September 9, 2011 – The Taste of Mountain Lakes will be held at the newly refurbished Esplanade. Long time residents and local volunteers will be honored. Please join us in the planning, the committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at the Borough Hall. Contact committee chair, Bill Albergo, balbergo@optonline.net.

Laker Voices – November 2011 – a theatrical, multi-media production of Mountain Lakes’ most famous and infamous tales – some factual, some a bit tall, some funny, some poignant. Using a “black box” stage set, actors will deliver monologues, duos and occasionally more, with ML images changing in the background. We need photographers and videographers, as well as production and set volunteers, please contact Laurel Durenberger, lhdurenberger@gmail.com

Celebrating our Artists – past, present and future – throughout the year the Committee will be sponsoring Arts & Crafts workshops, a public temporary art installation and a Children’s art show. We are looking for volunteers to help with setting up the workshops, overseeing the RFP for the installation, and running the art show. If you are interested, please contact Amy Whitman, algw@bladebiz.net.

The Neighborhoods – Lend a hand to your neighborhood coordinators. To find your neighborhood contact, please go to http://ml100.org/neighborhoods.

Have you considered an art competition or call for artists to create, through art, in various mediums, representations of ML for an exhibition at some point during the year? You could open it to professional artists, amatuers, and children and have different categories…I think it would be fun and some of the best (judged by a panel) could be permanently installed in town hall, the library, and other places around town. You could also reproduce items for a calendar, cards, etc. to raise money for various town organizations. I would be willing to help with this.

I am a writer, photographer and videographer (for the football team) as well as a Laker for more than 40 years (Class of ’76) and would be glad to volunteer my services for the Centennial projects.

I would like to volunteer. I live in Boonton now but “I will always think of Mountain Lake as home” [class of 1959]. I am a professional floral designer and event planner so I thought I might be aable to help out. I also have many photos of high school days and a few good stories.
