Mountain Lake in 1924 photo

INSPIRATION FOR THE CENTENNIAL ARTWORK
The artwork was commissioned to commemorate the Centennial celebration and capture the lasting and unique character of Mountain Lakes. It was inspired by a historic photo of two women paddling a canoe upon the Main Lake on a lazy summer afternoon. The original Mountain Lakes Club can be seen in the background. The 1924 image had already become iconic, transforming it into an artwork seemed natural.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laura Wilder, an artist well know in the Arts& Crafts community, was chosen for the project after soliciting proposals from local and nationally known artists. A Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan, Laura has completed commissions for numerous public and private projects. Her arts & crafts printmaking style was a unique fit for our project. Learn more about the artist at her web site,

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The art print was created in a limited edition of 300 and is signed and numbered by the artist, and framed in a handmade quartersawn oak by Dard Hunter Studios. The simple logo adorns T shirts, posters and other centennial merchandise.

The logo artwork, rendered in both the more detailed art print version (left) and simple logo (right) magically captures Mountain Lakes—our arts & crafts heritage, our connection to the landscape and our strong sense of community. We are indebted to Laura for her passionate execution of the project, and her ability to so precisely translate the spirit of our mission.

The logo is just perfect and illicits so many memories! The print will be a “must have” and I hope you will include T-shirts for those of us who live afar…but remain “Lakers” at heart.

I have asked if there is a poster that can be framed, but I have not received a response. I think it would be popular.
