MOUNTAIN LAKES “100 TREES FOR 100 YEARS”
CENTENNIAL INIATIVE

Mountain Lakes is known for its graceful and bucolic charm, due in large part to its many beautiful mature shade trees. They line our streets, shade our parks and homes, and generally enhance the environmental character of the borough.

The Mountain Lakes Association of 1912 wished “. . .That the scanty forest derelicts of our day shall have given place to stately shade trees umbrageous and beautiful. . .”

Many of our existing shade trees were planted in the early part of the 20th century, with a forward vision of how they would grace and enhance our homes and streets today. In this centennial year, we find that many of our trees are quite old now, and are being lost at an alarming rate. If we are to preserve for our future generations our tree canopy that is so much a defining quality of Mountain Lakes, we must all be mindful of the trees on our properties. Whether you are planning a large planting using a landscape contractor, thinking of replacing a few trees or just have one spot that needs a lovely, graceful shade tree, you can take advantage of our special pricing. Help us to keep the tranquil, environmental character of Mountain Lakes intact for future generations to enjoy.

It’s not too late to take advantage of the Commission’s municipal wholesale price to residents for selected trees available for planting on residential lots through Cerbo’s Parsippany Nursery & Greenhouses. This is an opportunity to plant your own legacy for the next 100 years, as did the very first residents a century ago for us.

Available species include Juneberry, Redbud, Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Pin Oak, Red Oak, Linden, Elm and Norway Spruce. For those residents severely affected by the clearing of the power lines this summer by JCP&L, Cerbo’s has expanded the list of species available for planting on residential lots to help re-plant a vegetation buffer bordering the power line right of way.

Trees are available for $125 for pick up at the nursery, $150 for delivery, or $195 for delivery and planting. Trees are 2” in diameter, will be planted in October, and are guaranteed for one year. There is no limit to the number of trees you may order, and those who are working with a landscaper may also purchase from this selection of trees for their projects. Orders will be taken by Cerbo’s through October 15th. To select and tag your tree(s), drop by the nursery at 440 Littleton Road, Parsippany, or contact Judy at 973-334-2623 or Judy@cerbogreenhouse.com
